I think it's bull when people say that kids don't learn anything from tv. I'm sure not all of it is educational but there are some really good shows out there. A couple that we watch are Little Einsteins and Signing Time. I love that Makenna gets to hear classical music and is really liking it. (Not that Travis wouldn't get her involved in that anyway but it's not on a daily basis) Travis had the classical music station on in the car and the "Brandenburg Concerto #5" by Bach came on and she yelled out in excitement, "It's the Birthday Machine". And just the other day when the show was coming on, she knew which episode it was just by the music. It was the "Flight of the Bumblebee" and she says, "It's Rocket Safari"!!! I don't know about anyone else but that is awesome that my daughter recognizes classical music! So she doesn't know the correct name of the pieces yet. I don't know them either. I had to ask my husband the names. But at least she is being exposed to it. She is also learning sign language from a show called "Signing Time". She amazes me how quickly she picks up on the signs. I have started recording them so we can watch the same one over and over to help us remember the signs. I'm learning right along with her. That is definitely something that I wouldn't be able to teach her. So, there you have it. We are tv watchers and I'm not afraid to admit it, dang it!!!
On a side note, Makenna was so funny during our prayers tonight. She has been a little stinker and not folding her arms and doing what she is supposed to. So, I told her she had to fold her arms and close her eyes. She was doing this while Travis was praying and she whispers to me, "I can't see Mommy. I can't see"!!!

I have started DVRing Signing Time, it is an AWESOME show. I admit we are TV watcher, too...I have to have the tube on all day it seems...I may start putting on music here and there...but gotta have some kind of background noise on!
Now that I am home alone, I keep mine on for noise as well. It does drive me bananas that ours are always on. In the evenings after dinner we will have every tv on. ^ of em... That is embarrassing!!!
that was supposed to be 6 of them, not ^
Both my kids have learned a lot from the shows you mentioned and some other educational ones. I admit that Luke watches way too much TV. It is always something I am trying to do better, but the peace and quiet is really nice a lot of times. :)
