Who doesn't love a little pumpkin goo?

Makenna was so excited to put a face on our pumpkin. Travis made her feel the inside of it and she was sooooo grossed out!! She had to immediately stop and wash her hands!

She made sure her Daddy did a good job.

Jordyn tried to be interested......

But all she wanted to do was go play;)
Makenna was happy with the face that Daddy carved out and couldn't wait to put it outside.

Happy Halloween from us.

Our big helper

Travis asked Makenna if she wanted to help wash the van and she got so excited. I've never seen her so happy to clean something;)

Jordyn just watching with Mommy and enjoying being outside.

A blimp flew by while we were out there and....

Makenna loved it. She wouldn't quit staring at it.

Hanging with Daddy

Jordyn sat on the stairs, put her arm back and was just hanging out. It was so cute that I had to take a picture.

And of course when Daddy gets his trumpet out, Miss Kenna has to get hers out too. It's the law;) (Excuse the pull up.....she just got up from her nap)

I can't wait to hear them playing duets together;)

Trunk or Treat

We went to our trunk or treat on Saturday. We went late because they were having a magic show again and Makenna wouldn't sit still for it last year. I was so not in the mood to fight with her and let's face it, she's three. She just wanted to go get some candy. We gave them baths before we left because I knew it would be late when we got home and that way I could just put jammies on and put them into bed. So Makenna's hair is pretty nappy because it was still wet and I'm going to draw some whiskers on J.J. on Friday so they should look better for Halloween. I didn't get great pics but here they are.....

If you can't tell, J.J. is Minnie Mouse, Makenna is Cinderella and Travis is Obama;)

I voted

Now ya'll can leave me alone. You can stop leaving me your fliers. You can stop calling. We are done!! Now everyone go VOTE!! (That is, unless you are voting for Obama;)

Why?

Why do cars drive by so fast and close to us when we are bike riding while toting little kids behind me?

Why isn't chocolate a health food that is low in calories?

Why can't I get organized?

Why can't I be scrappy?

Why is every single way to work under construction?

Why is my 3 1/2 year old being so defiant and won't listen lately?

Why do my babies wake up late when I have to be up anyway to get ready for an appointment but wake up at the crack of dawn when we have nowhere to go?

Why do they put Christmas decorations up in the store before Halloween is over?

Why does our homeowners write us a letter when our house is one of the best looking ones on the block?

Why does my best friend Sarah live so far away?

Why are plane tickets so expensive?

Why do men tip so much better than women?

Why does it get so slow at work right when it's time to spend more money at Christmas time?

Why do people cut me off while I'm minding my own business in my lane and then flip me off?

Why does the school district always look to cut music from the schools when they need to cut the budget instead of looking to cut some of the higher ups pay that is way too much?

Why is it still in the 80's in late October?

Why does Jimmy Johnson win everything? (only Nascar peeps will understand that one;)

Why are people voting for Obama?

Why do I always remember that my favorite shows are on after they are over?

Why can some people eat whatever they want and still be super skinny and why isn't that me?

Why did my hubby make a cheesecake the day after I started my diet?

Why did I write this? It was just what I was thinking while massaging people today. I don't know why....

Diet

My blogger friend Ashley has been on a diet and losing big time so she inspired me to start one of my own. It has been a week since I started my diet and I have to say that I'm shocked at how many calories are in everything. I felt like I was going to be fighting a losing battle in the beginning. I was sooo hungry but it got alot better once I started finding different foods that are good and low in calories. I have been eating a lot of fruits and veggies and snack on beef jerky (only 20 cal a stick) and I got those 100 calorie packs of cookies or the weight watcher cookies and cakes if I need a sweet treat. I also am not going to waste my calories on liquid so it's water or diet soda for me. I have been keeping it at 1200 calories a day but also giving myself a kind of cheat day on Saturday because we always have pancakes with the kids and I don't want to watch them eat;) I am going to try to find some low calorie pancake stuff for me that doesn't taste like cardboard. Any suggestions? My mom and I have also been bike riding for 5 1/2 miles every morning while pulling 50+ pounds of kids behind me half of the time and I have been doing some hand weights at home. All in all, I am very proud of myself since I have never been on a diet in my life. I have always just exercised it away but this fat is being very stingy and doesn't want to leave me. I guess that's what happens when you get older;( But I am happy to say that I lost 4 pounds this week!! I lost 1/2 inch in my tummy and 1 inch on my thighs. I can't really see a difference but I can feel the difference. It was tough but so worth it and definitely a good start!! I just hope I keep it up;)

Singing Beauty

Hold the presses...I'm being crafty

I don't get crafty very often but my awesome friend Sarah did these and she inspired me to do them because they are just too cute. You can find the directions on her blog HERE. These adorable wreaths are made from my girls' palms and feet. It wasn't very easy to do with Jordyn but with my parents help, we got a page each of her hand and foot. Makenna thought it was so fuuuun! I should have made her re dip her foot a little bit more in the white paint because some of the ghosts didn't come out all white but o-well. I still think they are cute and Makenna got all giddy when I started making them into ghosts and pumpkins. I made two smaller wreaths for the grandparents and when we took one over to our sick grandma (get well soon), Makenna asked, "You like our goats Grandma?" It was so cute. She called them ghosts as soon as I corrected her but it's so adorable to hear what it sounds like to little kids. Anyway, that is my attempt at being crafty. It's not perfect but I'm proud of it!!

Love it!

I love it when Jordyn wraps her hand around my finger when I am singing her songs before bed.

I love that Makenna still wants to cuddle with me.

I love to watch my hubby play his trumpet in concerts.

Love it.

So funny

Makenna: Are you painting mommy's hair again Grandma?

One of those days

It started out good. We went bike riding. Jordyn went down well for her nap so I was able to take a shower without her screaming at me. I did some weights with Makenna (she likes to mimick me so she was doing squats right with me). And then off to my presidency meeting. That's when it started going downhill. The kids went crazy. Makenna pretty much tornadoed through the house while I'm trying to listen and discipline at the same time (which is not easy) and Jordyn kept screaming because she couldn't push this doll stroller where she wanted it to go and then wanted to go outside when the other girls did. I wasn't about to let my one year old play outside where I couldn't see her but when she sees her sister go outside, she has a one track mind. So that led to a screaming fest and of course she didn't want me to hold her either like she normally does and when I could have easily done so since I was just sitting at a table. No, she wants that when we get home while I am trying to get the house cleaned up. She is having a major dose of separation anxiety. She hates it when I go to work. She clings to me and won't even let me go to the bathroom. I'm also cranky because I started a diet today because unfortunately I can't lose weight with just exercise alone! Crap!! And I hate to diet. But thankfully they went down for their naps very well so instead of cleaning the house and folding three loads of laundry, I'm sitting here on the computer and contemplating a nap of my own. How in the world am I supposed to keep up with all those cool crafty moms and do scrapbooks and fun stuff like that when I can't even get motivated to get organized and clean. It's not even that dirty but it's dirty to me. I don't even have my Halloween decorations out!! I'm just having a self pity day and I really need to prioritize what is really important!

What Makenna says....

My Makenna is so funny. She makes me laugh all the time and I love how her little mind works. Their logic is so simple. A few days ago, I bought a pumpkin. Makenna was so excited when she saw it but when she went in for a closer look, she made a frown. She then asked where his face was!!! So cute. She was so concerned for that darn pumpkin. And then today we were watching Sleeping Beauty and the princess is out in the forest collecting berries and Makenna all of a sudden says that the princess is naughty. I asked her why and she says, "Because she doesn't have her shoes on!! She could step on a rock and hurt herself." I looked and Sleeping Beauty was dancing around with no shoes on!! How naughty!! I just love this girl! She makes me smile.

Change of pace

Instead of posting a pic of my kiddos, I decided to change things up and put up a pic of my handsome hubby. He is playing with the philharmonic tonight and he had his suit on so I took advantage and took a picture. He has been a busy little trumpet player this week. He had rehearsal with the stake orchestra Thursday night, rehearsal with the Phil on Friday night and Saturday morning with the concert on Saturday night. Makenna doesn't really like this. As he was leaving this morning, she said...." You have to go play your trumpet AGAIN???" And she definitely wasn't happy that he was leaving tonight. She said "But it's already dark out daddy. You can't go. It's nighttime." She said it right. We miss our daddy when he's gone, especially at night. But we are proud of him and his talent and appreciate it when he gets a gig;)

Only in Hollywood...

I was flipping channels the other night and happened upon Entertainment tonight. They were talking about Dancing with the Stars so I figured I would see what is going on with that show. The whole segment was about how Cheryl (one of the professional dancers) gained weight!! They were showing her and I thought she looked great. Then they did an interview with her and she said she had only gained 5 pounds. Seriously people, we are talking about someone who gained 5 freaking pounds??? Then they said she is a size 4 so she has some curves but that she looks good anyway! What??? A size 4 is curvy??? A size 4 to me is tiny!! I personally think size 4 is too small!! You can be too skinny! I would love to be a size 8. That was the size I was when Trav and I were dating and it was such a good weight for me but I also looked good at size 10. Hollywood needs to get a clue. They are going to make our young girls think they need to be toothpicks to be worth anything!! I beg to differ......

Phase

Jordyn has now entered the phase of grabbing my legs and screaming while I attempt to do my hair. This will result in very bad hair days for the mommy;(

On a more positive note, I just saved $22.50 at the grocery store today from looking at store ads. Thank heavens for Walmarts price match. I know I wouldn't go to five different stores to get those deals! I am very proud of myself;)

Reminiscing

I was looking through some old pics tonight and reminiscing about when Makenna was little. It's so cute how just even a year ago, her hair was just these tight little curls on top of her head. And she still had the cute chubby baby face. It's crazy how much our babies change so fast. So, I've decided to add something to my blog because....well, it's my blog and I can do whatever the heck I want to. I'm going to put old pics on my sidebar and change them whenever I feel like it. This first pic is from our trip last year. She is standing in the middle of Adam-Ondi-Ahman. We pretty much had the place to ourselves so she was able to just run! I love this pic and it always makes me smile.

What do I do now?

We went to Target today to get Sleeping Beauty and after I parked, I opened Makenna's door with my clicker. I usually get Jordyn out first and then go unbuckle Makenna. Before I even opened Jordyn's door, Makenna was out of the van. I know she was buckled before we left so I was a little baffled! I asked her how she got out and she casually replied, "I pushed the button!" Um.....what??? You are only three. You are not supposed to be able to get out of your car seat!! (Or is this normal?) Do kids normally learn how to unbuckle their car seats at this age? I thought that it might have been a fluke and that she wouldn't be able to do it again but she did it again when we got home. How am I going to keep this girl in her car seat while we are driving? I don't care if she gets herself out when we get somewhere. I just worry that she will unbuckle herself while I'm driving and I won't know. She is really good about seat belts. She yells at us if we haven't gotten ours on but what do I do to make sure she stays in her chair???

The Yucks

I realized that I like to work out because I felt totally 'blah' this past week when I didn't. I usually go bike riding or walking with my mom in the mornings but she was out of town and besides it was too hot anyway. And then when it finally got cooler, we all ended up with the stomach flu (minus Jordyn.....thank heavens!!) According to Makenna, we had a case of the yucks;) Fortunately, we all kind of got it around the same time so we didn't have to deal with it forever but it still sucked. So today I was ready to get out of the house and work out. We rode bikes for an hour this morning and I had to get out of the house when Travis was doing trumpet lessons tonight, so I went bike riding again. It was my second time and I was pulling 55 pounds of kids behind me. We also have some really good hills in our development and it was pretty hard going up. Makenna all of a sudden blurts out, "Moooooom! Go faster!! You are going way too slow!!" Sorry baby.....that was as fast as my big butt could go;)
We also made some yummy broiled chicken salad for dinner and Makenna decided she needed to watch me cut up the chicken. She got her stool and stood right next to me. After a few minutes she asked if she could cut the chicken. Obviously I told her no. She pondered that for a minute and then informed me that when she gets older, and when Daddy and I are at work, she is going to cut up the chicken and make us dinner. I am going to hold her to that when she gets to be a teenager;)

First Attempt...

At french braiding Makenna's hair. She is three and a half and a lot of kids have hair down to their butts by now but hers is still pretty short. It's partly because she was bald for so long as a baby and partly because it's so curly. It's also really fine but I thought it would be fun to try while we were watching conference. I learned how to french braid while practicing on my cousin's hair many years ago while we watched conference. I knew that I would only be able to do the front of her hair and it was still pretty difficult to do that but I think it turned out pretty cute.

Not something you see everyday....

I was on my way to work yesterday and sitting at the light right beside the Stratosphere. Standing in front of Carl's Jr. waiting to cross the street was ELVIS!!! Yup, it was an Elvis impersonator in all the garb and hair. It was so funny. He was even doing the Elvis stance as he was waiting and then did the Elvis walk across the street. He was totally in character. Or maybe it was the real Elvis.......lol!
