Memorial Day

We went to the cemetary today to honor my Grandpa who served in WWII and to visit Grandma Great. Makenna has been wanting to give her the picture she drew and some flowers!
Makenna is such a sweetheart! I love this sensitive little girl.

Before and After

Our first home right before we moved out four years ago!!

We worked really hard to keep up the yard and make it look real nice!

And after.......ick!!! They cut down the tree and let the grass and many of the bushes die!! It makes me ill!! She had even made us put in new grass in the backyard before we moved out! I bet it looks like this back there too!! Ugh! O-well. It will still look like the above pics in my mind!!

No kidding and AMEN!!

Makenna and Grandma Great

It is really hard trying to explain death to a five year old! I debated on whether or not to let Makenna see Grandma. I didn't know if she would understand. I didn't know how she would take it. I just didn't know. I just figured we would go in the room and let her take the lead. If she went over to see her, we would just go with it. Makenna pretty much went over to Grandma right away. She really wanted to see her so I went with her. My precious little girl just put her hands on the side of her casket and looked and her Grandma Great. We just talked about how pretty she was and how pretty her dress was. We took our seats and thought that went very well when the next thing I know, Makenna is back looking at Grandma.....hands again on the side of the casket looking in. This girl was making me break down! She kept going back again and again. I don't know what was going through this sweet baby girl's mind but she wanted to see her Grandma Great. When they were about to close her casket, I took her up one last time and we said that we loved her. Makenna started crying as we left and she told me that she wanted Grandma to say I love you back to her!!
This is the picture that she drew at joy school yesterday. In the upper right corner is Grandma Great in her casket with a flower on it (she had flowers all over it) and Makenna is on the bottom left and has tears coming down her face!

As we were walking behind Grandma after the funeral was over, Makenna started getting panicky. I asked her what was the matter and she said she wanted to give Grandma Great a kiss. I told her she couldn't and she started to get upset. Then she really started to freak out when she saw them put her in the back of the hearse. She totally broke down crying when we got in the van. I got in the back with her and just held her and she just kept saying that she hopes Grandma feels better. After we got to the grave site and the dedicatory prayer (which my Dad gave and did an awesome job on:), some threw roses into the grave. Makenna wanted to do this but as she did it, she yells, "OH CRAP!! My rose broke!!" That's my Makenna:) Her rose had broken apart and fell off. When it was time to leave, she started to get upset again and she told me she wanted to give Grandma a kiss! I could think of only one solution so I took her over there and we both blew kisses at Grandma! I know she caught them:)
This is a flower from one of the arrangements.

That night and the next couple of days were still hard for her. She kept saying that she hopes Grandma feels better. She would all of a sudden be in tears and tell me that she is sad because she wants to see Grandma. She was also worried about my Mom because she saw tears coming down her face:) I think we are now in the phase of denial. She drew her a picture and said she wanted to go over to her house to see her and hang it up on her wall. I don't really know how else to explain this to a five year old. It's Memorial Day this weekend and we always put something on Grandpa Dunsmoor's grave so I'm going to take Makenna with me this time so she can put something on Grandma's. Maybe we will give Grandma that picture:)

There is a glorious reunion going on in Heaven

A grandmother holds
her grandchildren's hands
for a while...
Their hearts forever

Connie 'Rae' Cheney Dunsmoor was born April 2, 1934 and passed from this earth on May 16, 2010. She was married when she was 17 to my Grandpa Dunsmoor and was married for 17 years before he passed in 1968. She was alone for another 17 years before she married again to Ken Bell. They were married for 15 years (messed up her pattern of 17:) before he passed away. She then married her last husband Duane in 2001 and he just passed in January. She has had such a hard life. When my Grandpa died, he left her with five children to raise by herself. She was only 34 years old when she was widowed. I've always known that but it really hit me hard now that I have just turned 34 in April. I cannot even imagine how my Grandma did it! My Grandpa was only 42 years old when he died and it has been 42 years since he passed....(there goes those number patterns again:) I guess it was definitely her time and there truly is a glorious reunion going on in Heaven. She has been an amazing Grandma and we will miss her dearly!!

I had to do a talk at her funeral about all of her Grandchildren's memories. These are a few of mine......

When I think of my Grandma, I remember her beautiful roses that lined the front of her house to the raspberries that lined the stairs in the backyard and her popcorn apricot tree. I remember climbing the fig tree and feeding her turtles. When we were really young, we would go over to her house for Christmas and she would have different games for us to play with prizes to win which was always so fun. Thanksgiving would always have homemade place cards cut out like turkeys with all of our names on them and playing football out in front of her house. I also remember the lazy suzan type round thing her tv was on before her house was remodeled. You could turn the tv towards the living room or the kitchen and I thought that was the best thing ever! She also always had mints to share at church and every time I smell exhaust, I think of her orange el camino!!

I remember how thrilled she was when I named my first daughter Makenna "Rae" after her. She would call her her namesake over and over again and even signed her name Grandma “Rae” in the cards she sent us. It made her so happy.

But my fondest memory is my most recent one. I just gave birth to her last great grandchild born in her lifetime in April. I was planning on going over to Grandma’s house so that she could meet my son but was trying to get adjusted to having three kids. I started feeling like I really needed to get over there soon so I asked my mom when we were going to go visit Grandma. We decided to go that Friday which was May 7th. Grandma’s eyes lit up when she saw my little one and loved being able to hold him. I took some pictures of them and Aiden even smiled at her as they looked into each other’s eyes. That melted her heart and made her day. My girls played around us while we had a nice visit. I gave her a hug and kiss and told her I loved her and left her house for the last time while she was alive. The very next morning, she was taken to the hospital. I will forever be grateful for being able to introduce my son to my grandma and that she had the opportunity to hold him.

We love you and will miss you dearly Grandma Great!!

Made it through

I am weary! It was a very emotional weekend and I can feel it. It takes a lot out of you. I also had to give a talk about all of the Grandchildren's memories. I think it went well but stressed about it until it was over. My little girl is also having a hard time. She keeps telling me she is sad because she wants to go see Grandma Great or wants to put a flower in her hair, etc....She also said many numerous things yesterday that about put me in tears every time (that will be in the next post because I'm too tired today:) I love how sensitive and sweet my baby girl is. It is also very difficult trying to explain death to a five year old. This is her first close experience with death. We just keep telling her that she went to be with Heavenly Father just like Dot (my parents dog just recently). She then tells me that she wants to go see her. We will be able to someday baby!! Someday. I'm so thankful that Families are Forever!

Never give up

We bought and planted some beautiful flowers last spring. They had such a gorgeous color but they didn't last long because Miss Kenna decided to pick off all the flowers. We never got anymore flowers from it after that and it literally looked like it had died. But for some reason I would still give it a drink of water because....you never know. Now that the weather is warmer, I put the pot aside to put something new in it. Before we knew it, some green started sprouting from it. Travis thought they were weeds and even sprayed some weed killer in it (I didn't know this because I was still watering it:) My watering paid off because we started getting some buds!!

And now we have beautiful flowers again!! And Makenna has been told not to pick them! :)

So, this reminded me to never give up on things. You don't know what beautiful things will come if you keep at something!

One month old

My very good friend Sarah is the most creative woman I know and took the cutest pics of her son who is only a week older than mine. I HAD to use the idea because they look so awesome. I did them super quick but I love how they turned out. I might have to do it again and try to get some more:)

I am so in love with my son...aka....little man, baby boy, sweet boy/man, little dude (that's Travs:).

He seems to have grown a ton over this month. He is definitely longer and I don't know how much he weighs but he is getting some adorable cheeks;)

He usually has his forehead creased or brows furrowed even when he's sleeping. We keep telling him that he's going to get wrinkles early but he's not listening to us:)

He was being my angel baby during the night but ever since my wonderful 7 hour stretch for Mother's day, he's added an extra feeding during the night. This in turn means mommy is more tired but he's worth it.

Second mommy couldn't stay away from him while I was taking pics:)

This is his first smile caught on camera! I almost missed it but it's still cute:) It is so neat to be a more experienced mommy. I am enjoying him so much and I can't quit kissing those sweet cheeks!

All about my Kenna

Oh my sweet Kenna. She is a spunky little five year old! She keeps me on my toes everyday. She is so loving to her family and very bossy at the same time (which Jordyn doesn't appreciate very much:) She will try to discipline Jordyn like we do so she is truly the second mommy.

These are from her fun at t-ball. It just ended last week and she was quite bummed. She looks so cute in her baseball hat.

She is very good too!! I guess she takes after her mommy:)

This is very fuzzy but I love it. It shows the joy in her face.

Again...love the smile. You can tell she is having a blast.

Makenna is super smart. She loves going to joy school and impresses me everyday with all that she does. Whenever I taught, I loved to just watch her as she did her worksheets. I couldn't believe how well she did on them and how fast she finished. I'm kinda worried that she might be a little bored in Kindergarten:)
She painted this at school! I think she did such a great job. It even gets a spot on our shelf in the family room:)
She is also a little monkey. She loves to climb!
She has had quite the attitude lately. I swear she is 5 going on 15!! I can't believe the way she talks to me sometimes! But then there are times that she is so good and a huge helper to me!

Two of her quotes lately...."I'm not a little kid anymore, I'm human!!" And...."will Aiden ever grow up???" Too funny!! She also says her tummy is getting tickled when she goes really fast on some playground equipment!
We don't call her Makenna around here. We call her MY Kenna....especially Jordyn. She is HER Kenna. I love it. She is a very sensitive, sweet girl. She will get so upset if you yell at her or discipline her. She starts saying that you don't love your Kenna! But with that sensitivity comes some sweet loving back at you! I get lots of cuddles and hugs! I love this beautiful first born of mine!!

All about Jordyn

I feel like all my posts lately have been about Aiden so I wanted to do a couple posts for my girls. This one is Jordyns:) Isn't she a doll???

It's a good thing she is cute! She has been throwing some serious tantrums since the baby was born. She would just throw herself on the floor and scream at the top of her lungs for no reason and there would be nothing I could do to calm her down. She is getting better now though. We still have our days but getting better.
Isn't she adorable?? She is on her dolls' bike!! I think it's a little small for her:)

She has been doing well with sleeping in Makenna's room as well. She was taking forever to get to sleep so we changed things up a bit and we put her to bed first (sing her songs or read her books all by herself) and then have Makenna join her a little later. I think it works for both of them better. Jordyn gets her individual time when we are putting her to bed like we used to when she had her own room and Makenna gets her individual time as she gets to stay up with us a little later than Jordyn!!
You just gotta love those thighs! I wish mine were as cute:)

Good little mommy!! She still has a diaper on (as you can see in the pic below)! But she is getting more and more interested in going to the bathroom. She has been sitting on the toilet for awhile now but never doing anything in it. But recently she has actually been going potty. She mostly does it at bath time. I don't know if she feels it more when she is naked or what. I think we will really work on it when Trav is home for the summer. Maybe we will just keep her naked and get her used to it:)

She still puts knots in her hair as well. She plays with it when she is tired and just knots it right up. It is also very hard to get out with her curly hair!! I'm getting better at that though. It doesn't take me as long as it used to. And I have no idea how she got this caught in her naps:) I think Travis even had to cut it out because it was so stuck in there!!

Even though we have had some trying times lately, I love my Jordyn. She is so precious and I could stare into those big brown eyes all day. I always wondered why my Mom likes my brown eyes. I just thought they were just regular old brown but I love my girls' brown eyes!! They are so beautiful and so are they!!

Love for the Moms

In honor of Mother's day tomorrow, I want to tell our Moms how much they mean to us and we are so thankful for them in our lives. We love you!!

My Grandma....my kids' great Grandma! This is her first time meeting Aiden! We are so thankful for all that she has done and had to sacrifice in her life to raise her five children.

My Mom!! We are so thankful for all that she does for us and being there when we need her. And she loves our kids just as much as we do which means a lot!!
Trav's Mom! We are also thankful for all that she does and that she loves our kids as much as we do.

And I'm thankful for a wonderful husband that brings me home beautiful flowers and breakfast in bed!! Love you honey!

He wasn't supposed to get me in the background of this pic nursing Aiden:P O-well.

And to our honorary Mother......Aiden's second Mommy, Miss Makenna!! She loves her brother so much and feels so bad after what happened the other day. She was holding him and got up and started walking around with him. I didn't see this since I was changing Jordyn's diaper and next thing I know, I hear a 'thump'. I rush over to the front room and Aiden is laying on the floor on his back and Kenna has this awful look on her face. I freaked out and examined Aiden up and down and he stopped crying right after I loved on him. Makenna ran up the stairs balling her eyes out. I felt bad for both of my 'babies'. I know she didn't mean to drop him and it broke my heart that she was so upset. But at the same time I hoped that it taught her a lesson to not walk around with him. I calmed her down after I calmed down and took her to school. I was worried and weepy all morning and finally called a pediatrician in our ward (his son is in Kenna's joy school) to see if I could come over and have him check Aiden out. He was more than willing and gave him a full examination. He told me he was fine and then I was finally able to relax a little bit. I still wouldn't put him down for the rest of the day though:) A very scary experience (one that I hope not to repeat) but that is the life of a MOM!! You never know what the day will bring you. Frustration, sadness and maybe some irritation but oh so much joy and happiness that can fill your heart and more!! I'm so thankful that my Heavenly Father trusted me with these sweet spirits and allowed me to be a Mom and I just hope that I can do as good of a job as the Mothers in my life.
Our sweet second Mommy!! :)

Three weeks

I can't believe it's been three whole weeks since Aiden was born. To me, it feels like only three days. He is growing so fast and getting really long. I love to watch him, smell him, feed him.....etc. He is just a joy to have in our home.

Aiden is a great baby. He goes to sleep for the night about 10:30 or so after one last feeding and then usually wakes up about 3:30ish. He's up for half hour to an hour eating and then back to sleep again until about 7 or 8!! I've got it really good right now which I'm very thankful for because it takes me forever to get back to sleep!! My girls usually wake me up in the morning before he does. I also love that he usually wakes up at the same time because Trauma Center is always on at that time in the middle of the night on the discovery channel;) He also usually takes a long nap right at the same time as Jordyn does!!

He nurses really well. Sometimes it takes a little longer for him to latch on one side but other than that, it's going great. And he never made me sore and cracked which I will be forever grateful for. I was in quite a bit of pain for awhile with both of my girls and I was just waiting for it to happen again!! So happy that it didn't.

Aiden rarely cries. He only fusses if he is hungry and even then he gives me some warning. He does this cute this snorting through his nose for a bit. It's my cue to get him fed. But if I'm doing something else and don't get to him in time, he will start doing this high pitched screech and then a full on cry. It usually doesn't get to that point unless I'm in the middle of doing something like taking a shower or putting Jordyn to bed. He won't even cry if he's poopy. He is just a very laid back baby boy! I'm very lucky!! I hope it lasts!
