First Indy Car Race.....didn't go as planned!!

We got to go to our first Indy Car race!! And we even got to meet Tony Stewart of all people!! He looks alot like our Makenna:)
It was general admission seating so we were able to sit right by the start/finish line:)
Makenna kept asking when the "Tony Pledge of Allegiance" song was going to start!! She is so dang cute!! She had her hand on her heart way before it started! What a good girl! :)
Flyover!!
Makenna even got to sit in Danica's car!! She almost disappeared:)

We were all settled in for a fun race but craziness happened with only 11 laps in. About a dozen cars started crashing with some going airborne!! The first part of the crash was bad enough but then more crashed and then even more crashed. All you could see were big fireballs all over the place. It was crazy. I was very thankful that it didn't happen right in front of us. They had blocked the first rows but we weren't too high up and that had to have debris flying everywhere. Makenna was also worried and said that they were going to have to go to the hospital because they didn't have tops on their cars:) Unfortunately, a young driver, Dan Wheldon, did had to get airlifted to the hospital and ended up dying from that crash and the rest of the race was cancelled. It was all very sad. I felt bad for complaining because we had to sit out in the heat forever waiting when someone was losing their husband and father. It also makes you think about your family and how fragile life is. I'm so thankful for my husband and kids and extended family!!

The signs you know your kiddos are getting older....

Makenna is one smart cookie. She is very aware of everything that is said and done by us and on tv. She is always asking me if things on movies are real....especially Harry Potter:) Since I am usually saying things aren't real since I can't get things done with the flick of my wand (unfortunately:), I don't think she was expecting me to say that what was on tv today was real. I was watching the memorial services for 9/11 and they kept showing the planes going into the buildings and the fires. Makenna was mesmerized by it (the first year that it has held her interest at all). I kept telling her to go play because I wanted to watch it but didn't want her to watch it but it was like she was rooted to the ground. She then asked me if it was real. Not wanting to lie, I told her that it was but it was a long time ago. That seemed to make her feel better but then she started worrying that we wouldn't ever be able to go back to New York because she loves New York. I reassured her that it was ok and that there was no problem in going back but then she got all excited thinking we were going to New York!! Love that girl! :)

Random act of thoughtfulness!

I know this is small but this random act of thoughtfulness by my sweet girl made me really happy and I didn't want to forget it. I like to read alot and my girls always ask me why I put my book face down. I told them it was just to mark my place. A few days ago, I had popped some popcorn for Makenna and was going to read my book and snuggle with her while the girls watched their movie. The popcorn was made and the movie was starting but she got a piece of paper out and started coloring. Knowing me, I knew that the popcorn wasn't going to last very long so I kept telling her that she needed to come and snuggle and eat some popcorn before it was all gone. She wouldn't tell me what she was doing but finally she came over and gave me this.......
It's a beautifully made bookmark (that says...I Love Mom) to mark the pages of my books!!! It was the sweetest thing ever!! She saw that I had a need and did something about it. And everytime I use it, I smile:)

1st day of 1st grade!!!

Today was Makenna's first day of 1st grade!! She was beyond excited to start school. And Mom was excited as well and to get back on a schedule! We have a big change this year though. We have to start an hour earlier than last year. The bell rings at 7:50 (the same time as Middle School) which means we have to leave our house by 7:20 to get a parking spot. For some reason they aren't opening the gate until the bell rings so that means there will be tons of kids waiting outside. It's so weird but we will just go with it. Makenna was pretty groggy this morning when I tried to get her up at 6:30 but I think it will get easier as she goes to bed earlier. She got ready and I made her favorite breakfast (scrambled eggs) which she didn't eat that much of and then I finished making her lunch!! Eek!! I have a kid old enough where I have to make her lunch!! It's so weird:)
Of course I had to take the 1st day pic:)
Once Makenna found her friend Olivia, she was all good and ran into the school playground. I lost sight of her a couple of times because she kept running ahead...little stinker!! There were a ton of people there!
Then, as we were standing in line, she started to get all panicky and worried. I kept giving her loves and it looked like she wanted to just burst into tears!! I guess she has some of me in her...:)
She totally broke my heart!!
Mommy was crying by this point but thankfully had sunglasses on so she couldn't see:) It was hard watching her walk into school without me. There were so many kids and people that I was so worried that she was going to get lost. Her teacher didn't want any parents going in so I assume she made it!! I'm sure she will be all smiles when she gets home and I can't wait to hear all about her day!

Daisy!!!

Makenna had her pinning ceremony for Daisy girl scouts a couple of weeks ago. She was so excited and loves going. For some reason I keep forgetting about it every week but she reminds me every time....even if it's a couple hours before:) I'm glad she gets to do things with her school friends in the summer!

Last Day of Kindergarten!!!

Makenna's last day of Kindergarten was on June 9th and it was a very emotional day!! She was completely fine and excited when we were home but something happened on the way there. She just all of a sudden started balling!! And I mean balling. She kept saying that she didn't want to go to first grade if she had to leave Mrs. Carvalho! It was so sad. I thought she would be better once we got there but she just kept crying. Thankfully Mrs. Carvalho was the one to open the gate that morning so she was able to give her a hug and try to calm her down. We are so thankful that Makenna had such a great teacher for Kindergarten to start her schooling years!!
I was also a bit frazzled this day because I was just planning on going to the store really quickly and then picking her up and letting them play at the park with Olivia until swimming lessons but my van had a hard time starting and it sounded like the battery. I still decided to go to the store (we were going to St. George for a funeral the next day so we needed stuff for that), quickly dropped the cold stuff in the fridge then ran to get Kenna and then went to get the battery changed after that!! It was changed in no time thankfully so we were able to have lunch and then still go to swimming lessons!
I picked up all the girls while the moms stayed by their cars and mine (still running so the battery wouldn't die) and there was not a dry eye anywhere. They all had tissues and Mrs. Carvalho had red eyes!! It was so sweet!! We got report cards and their teacher assignments for next year! Makenna is in the same class as Olivia but not Layne!! Then we had to take one last picture of the cute little girls together!!

This is one that Laura took when they were all wearing their girl scout shirts!! So cute!! I'm so glad that Makenna made such good friends and that I got to make such good friends with their Moms!! We are going to enjoy our summer before venturing into another great school year!!

Field Day!!

It's time to try and catch up on my blogging!!! I keep forgetting that just because I put it on facebook, doesn't mean I put it on my blog and since I can't print out facebook....:)
Makenna had her field day on June 3rd. I was able to come and also bring Jordyn. There were so many parents there that I didn't have to do anything but watch. It was great!! I hung out with Laura, Olivia's mommy and we were able to put our little ones on the games that weren't being used at the time so Jordyn had a great time as well!!
It was actually kinda chilly that day and since Makenna got soaked after her first station, she was freezing!! This was one of the few that didn't involve getting soaked.
Jordyn trying to get the ball to the end!
 Makenna doing the same thing:)
Makenna and Olivia were in the same group and they got to throw wet sponges into collanders on kids' heads!!
Jordyn trying to do the bouncing balls!

This was actually the first station they went to. They were supposed to pass the sponge over each other's heads and squeeze it out in the bucket but they didn't really get it. They thought you were supposed to squeeze the sponge on the heads! :)

Too fun!! They had a great time and they were quite pooped that afternoon:)

Very first swim lessons!

I hate to say that these are the girls' very first swim lessons but they are! It's not bad for Jordyn but it's about time for Kenna:) I was totally planning on putting them in lessons last year but who knew you had to schedule these lessons in the Winter or they would be booked??? :)
Anyway, they are getting two weeks worth of lessons and I'm hoping that they will be able to get around the water a little better by the end. Makenna did great. She already does really well but this should help her keep her legs and arms more controlled instead of flopping around. Jordyn didn't really want to do anything but I'm hoping that she will warm up to her with each day. I wanted to just get in with her and help her but I had Aiden and it was COLD!! Who knew that it would just barely be 70 degrees at noon in June!! Hopefully she will do better and get something from it!

Sweet brother

Makenna had tummy aches all weekend and her little brother was so worried about her. He kept leaning down by her head to see if she was ok!! It was very sweet!!

Makenna's Kindergarten graduation

My baby just graduated from Kindergarten!! I can't believe it!! This year has just flown by. They did a little program for all of the parents and they did wonderful!! They sang songs and each of them said a little part about what they wanted to be when they grew up. It was adorable!! Makenna actually told her teacher that she wanted to be a trash man at first. I have no idea where that came from. She likes to watch them from the window but....?? She is a silly girl! She then changed it to a Mommy which is what she tells me all the time. She always asks when she can have her own babies!! She did amazing on her part. I'm so proud of my little girl!!

I want to be a  homemaker,
and keep my house neat and clean.
I'll also take care of my kids,
as they grow from infants to teens.

Aiden was pretty good through the whole thing but had to get down at the very end. :)
Makenna's teacher is awesome!! We will be so sad to have to leave her class. At the end of the program she even teared up talking about her class. I can't wait until Jordyn can be in her class.

One last time!

The girls had their last ballet and tap class together. It's a 3-5 year old class so Makenna can't go anymore now that she is 6. I could put her in the next class that meets for another hour afterward but I don't know if Aiden will put up with that. I might go crazy if I had to stay there for two hours so we shall see if we continue. We are taking a break for a bit. Here's my cutie Jordyn;)

Here's my other cutie Kenna!!

And here is the dude trying to not to disrupt everyone else there. I think he failed that on Monday:) O-well...what are you going to do!!

The girls have had so much fun being in dance together!!
