I have been trying to get Makenna to watch different Disney movies lately from Bambi to Aladdin to Lady and the Tramp. They are classics but what is up with all of the violence??? And why do they always have to kill off the MOM!!! Seriously!!! I think they are trying to give our little ones nightmares. Travis put on Monster's Inc yesterday to try to get Makenna to watch something other than Enchanted and the whole beginning was about trying to collect as many kid's screams as you could. And of course the monsters are under the bed. Travis turned it off and put something else on but not before it got in her head that there are monsters under her bed. She was worried about it when I was putting her to bed last night. And there is always some witch wanting to kill the beautiful maiden. Snow White gets chased in the forest, Ariel almost gets knocked off by the evil witch, Sleeping Beauty gets cursed. I know they have to have a plot but geez!! Even Enchanted has a "mean lady" (according to Makenna) who wants to kill Giselle. Do they always have to want to "kill" the beautiful chic??? Do we really have to go there? But I guess I still let her watch these shows so I guess that is on me. I do fast forward Snow White though until she is safe in the forest. She is not watching some man running after Snow White trying to kill her. It scares me!!!Ü

It is every Disney movie too. They are geared for kids her age. I don't know what they are thinking. Maybe they don't have kids of their own.
Awww....Disney movies arent SCARY!! Its all in the way you take them.
If you don't have Evil, you can't have good. The "violence" in these movies is showing us and our children that GOOD can triumph over evil!! And they do...every single time.
I think we were talking about this at a potluck the other day....kids have to be able to recognize the difference b/t good and evil. And they have to know that there is evil out there or then they are in their little shells all their lives and when they are actually PRESENTED with evil in the future, they have no idea what to do. But with THESE types of movies (vs the down and out violence crazy ones) Good is always there to overcome.
But I'm saying I condone letting kids watch violence....but the whole Good overcoming Evil aspect helps to calm the kiddos fears a bit. But...who knows if that will work, Bella hasnt had any issues w/ these movies!!
I understand the Good vs. Evil thing. But why does the witch always want to 'Kill' the princess? And why is it always the moms that die? Kenna hasn't had a problem with these movies (obviously since she wants to watch Enchanted everyday) but I really don't like that Snow White scene. And she was worried about monsters under her bed again tonight. We are sooo not letting her watch that movie again;)
What about Pinocchio and Dumbo? They were both pretty odd. The elephants get drunk. And, Pinocchio was just plain weird in parts. I still love Disney movies, but some of it is kinda questionable. My neighbor who is die hard bible thumpin' Baptist refuses to let her daughter watch any Disney stuff. According to her Ariel is a bad example because she dresses skimpy and is belligerent. And, she back talks and disobeys her dad.
