Gymnastics class

Makenna went to her first gymnastics class today. I was so excited to finally put her in something and I have had friends highly recommend the rec center. Makenna has needed something to do during the day. She needs more than me even if I only take her to things once or twice a week. She was even more excited to go after watching the Olympics. She kept asking when she could do her gymnastics.

Here she is on the balance beam (Her favorite by far)

The bar where they flip all the way around.

Doing a hand stand. (Not sure if you can see her through the teacher;)

Not sure what this is except a smaller balance beam that they went on sideways.

I'm so thankful that she had a wonderful time because it definitely wasn't because of the teacher. She was such a wench that I wanted to just go over and smack. Seriously!! First of all, the other parents that were there before us had spread out over all of the chairs so we had to stand. No biggie but they were all just so smug and snotty looking. Like, oh my goodness, here is a girl that doesn't know what she is doing. I swear I kept getting dirty looks the whole time. Um, everyone has to start somewhere. I learned that it is very unfortunate that the classes were by age, not by level. I would have loved to just have been in a beginner class. All the other girls knew what to do. It was Makenna's first time!!! Give her a break. At least let her learn what was going on!!! At the beginning of the class they were stretching and I swear they were doing this for like 10 minutes!! Makenna was so eager to play on all of the stuff that it took all of her will to just sit there and the teacher kept getting mad at her for not stretching. Um, yeah, she's three and we've never sat for 10 minutes stretching. I was very proud of her that she even sat there at all. Then, she shows how to do like six different things and then tells the girls to go through them all while she helps a girl here and a girl there when they look like they need it. Well, since my daughter had never done any of these things, she wasn't about to know exactly what to do after telling her once. Personally, she should have taken one thing at a time and had every girl go through while she helped EVERY girl. She kept yelling at Makenna because she kept wanting to go to the balance beam. Well, that was the only thing she knew how to do by herself!!! And it wouldn't have been as bad if my daughter was the only one that was new. But there was a girl named Hannah that was obviously new too and the teacher kept talking all sweet and nice to her and saying, "It's ok honey", while she said, "Get in Line Makenna!!!" to my daughter! I was getting so pissed and my mom got so mad that she had to walk out! The teacher also made Makenna go last for everything and at the end gave high fives to everyone except my last turn going daughter. She just told her to sit down and didn't give her any praise. I know I should have said something at the end but I was so livid that I just had to leave because I'm not sure what I would have said. I even thought about not going again but Makenna was oblivious to what was going on and had a blast. So, just as long as she has a good time, I will keep taking her. But if she treats my daughter like that again, we will be having a discussion!!!

Anyway, rant over....afterwards, we went to the party store to look for some stuff for Jordyn's birthday and I found these adorable Minnie ears. Her theme is going to be Mickey and Minnie Mouse since she loves them and I had to get a picture of her in them. I wasn't going to buy them because they stay on her head for only about 1.2 seconds. Just long enough to get this picture. Her head is down because she was already in the process of taking them off. O-well. It would have been cute to get;)

I was ready to say ok, that's enough already. Let's GO. I realize you paid for six weeks, but that teacher was something else. It will be good for Makenna to learn to listen to the teacher and follow rules. So she will know what to do when she starts school. BUT..ooooh I was getting angry.

I can't believe the teacher treated her that way!! That is horrible!!! I know that if it continues, you will say something to her...and hopefully the teacher will realize that she needs to treat EVERYONE with respect and part of being a TEACHER is not to have favorites!!!
(She looks horrible, by the way....just like you described...like ya'll should even trust HER to know how to teach gymnastics!!!)
I hope the next class goes better. And I'm soooo glad Makenna loved it so much, she already looks like a pro!!!
WE LOVE YOU MAKENNA.

I am so sorry, that teacher sounded so horrible. I agree the classes should be by level, not age. I'm glad Makenna still had fun, but that is so hard to be the mom and watch your child get treated that way. Keep us posted.

The difference between you & the others parents is that you put Makenna in there for fun, they are trying to make money off their children. I mean,Jeesh, at age three or four, none of those kids should be experts!

Love the minnie ears! Too cute!

OK--now it's time for this Grandma to 'sound off'!! I would probably have said something to that teacher that very minute!! But then, I'm more vocal than most, I suppose. What a terrible way to treat our sweet Makenna (or any one for that matter)....come on, first day?? Let her warm up to everyone before getting 'dumped on'. But as travisandashlee stated--kids don't understand and they are so forgiving. Adults should be more like the little ones! That's why I like teaching Primary....immediate rewards from the kids! Hope next time will be better--if not; do speak to the teacher about. Ooooohhh that makes me angry, too.
