One of those days

It started out good. We went bike riding. Jordyn went down well for her nap so I was able to take a shower without her screaming at me. I did some weights with Makenna (she likes to mimick me so she was doing squats right with me). And then off to my presidency meeting. That's when it started going downhill. The kids went crazy. Makenna pretty much tornadoed through the house while I'm trying to listen and discipline at the same time (which is not easy) and Jordyn kept screaming because she couldn't push this doll stroller where she wanted it to go and then wanted to go outside when the other girls did. I wasn't about to let my one year old play outside where I couldn't see her but when she sees her sister go outside, she has a one track mind. So that led to a screaming fest and of course she didn't want me to hold her either like she normally does and when I could have easily done so since I was just sitting at a table. No, she wants that when we get home while I am trying to get the house cleaned up. She is having a major dose of separation anxiety. She hates it when I go to work. She clings to me and won't even let me go to the bathroom. I'm also cranky because I started a diet today because unfortunately I can't lose weight with just exercise alone! Crap!! And I hate to diet. But thankfully they went down for their naps very well so instead of cleaning the house and folding three loads of laundry, I'm sitting here on the computer and contemplating a nap of my own. How in the world am I supposed to keep up with all those cool crafty moms and do scrapbooks and fun stuff like that when I can't even get motivated to get organized and clean. It's not even that dirty but it's dirty to me. I don't even have my Halloween decorations out!! I'm just having a self pity day and I really need to prioritize what is really important!

What Makenna says....

My Makenna is so funny. She makes me laugh all the time and I love how her little mind works. Their logic is so simple. A few days ago, I bought a pumpkin. Makenna was so excited when she saw it but when she went in for a closer look, she made a frown. She then asked where his face was!!! So cute. She was so concerned for that darn pumpkin. And then today we were watching Sleeping Beauty and the princess is out in the forest collecting berries and Makenna all of a sudden says that the princess is naughty. I asked her why and she says, "Because she doesn't have her shoes on!! She could step on a rock and hurt herself." I looked and Sleeping Beauty was dancing around with no shoes on!! How naughty!! I just love this girl! She makes me smile.

Change of pace

Instead of posting a pic of my kiddos, I decided to change things up and put up a pic of my handsome hubby. He is playing with the philharmonic tonight and he had his suit on so I took advantage and took a picture. He has been a busy little trumpet player this week. He had rehearsal with the stake orchestra Thursday night, rehearsal with the Phil on Friday night and Saturday morning with the concert on Saturday night. Makenna doesn't really like this. As he was leaving this morning, she said...." You have to go play your trumpet AGAIN???" And she definitely wasn't happy that he was leaving tonight. She said "But it's already dark out daddy. You can't go. It's nighttime." She said it right. We miss our daddy when he's gone, especially at night. But we are proud of him and his talent and appreciate it when he gets a gig;)

Only in Hollywood...

I was flipping channels the other night and happened upon Entertainment tonight. They were talking about Dancing with the Stars so I figured I would see what is going on with that show. The whole segment was about how Cheryl (one of the professional dancers) gained weight!! They were showing her and I thought she looked great. Then they did an interview with her and she said she had only gained 5 pounds. Seriously people, we are talking about someone who gained 5 freaking pounds??? Then they said she is a size 4 so she has some curves but that she looks good anyway! What??? A size 4 is curvy??? A size 4 to me is tiny!! I personally think size 4 is too small!! You can be too skinny! I would love to be a size 8. That was the size I was when Trav and I were dating and it was such a good weight for me but I also looked good at size 10. Hollywood needs to get a clue. They are going to make our young girls think they need to be toothpicks to be worth anything!! I beg to differ......

Phase

Jordyn has now entered the phase of grabbing my legs and screaming while I attempt to do my hair. This will result in very bad hair days for the mommy;(

On a more positive note, I just saved $22.50 at the grocery store today from looking at store ads. Thank heavens for Walmarts price match. I know I wouldn't go to five different stores to get those deals! I am very proud of myself;)

Reminiscing

I was looking through some old pics tonight and reminiscing about when Makenna was little. It's so cute how just even a year ago, her hair was just these tight little curls on top of her head. And she still had the cute chubby baby face. It's crazy how much our babies change so fast. So, I've decided to add something to my blog because....well, it's my blog and I can do whatever the heck I want to. I'm going to put old pics on my sidebar and change them whenever I feel like it. This first pic is from our trip last year. She is standing in the middle of Adam-Ondi-Ahman. We pretty much had the place to ourselves so she was able to just run! I love this pic and it always makes me smile.

What do I do now?

We went to Target today to get Sleeping Beauty and after I parked, I opened Makenna's door with my clicker. I usually get Jordyn out first and then go unbuckle Makenna. Before I even opened Jordyn's door, Makenna was out of the van. I know she was buckled before we left so I was a little baffled! I asked her how she got out and she casually replied, "I pushed the button!" Um.....what??? You are only three. You are not supposed to be able to get out of your car seat!! (Or is this normal?) Do kids normally learn how to unbuckle their car seats at this age? I thought that it might have been a fluke and that she wouldn't be able to do it again but she did it again when we got home. How am I going to keep this girl in her car seat while we are driving? I don't care if she gets herself out when we get somewhere. I just worry that she will unbuckle herself while I'm driving and I won't know. She is really good about seat belts. She yells at us if we haven't gotten ours on but what do I do to make sure she stays in her chair???

The Yucks

I realized that I like to work out because I felt totally 'blah' this past week when I didn't. I usually go bike riding or walking with my mom in the mornings but she was out of town and besides it was too hot anyway. And then when it finally got cooler, we all ended up with the stomach flu (minus Jordyn.....thank heavens!!) According to Makenna, we had a case of the yucks;) Fortunately, we all kind of got it around the same time so we didn't have to deal with it forever but it still sucked. So today I was ready to get out of the house and work out. We rode bikes for an hour this morning and I had to get out of the house when Travis was doing trumpet lessons tonight, so I went bike riding again. It was my second time and I was pulling 55 pounds of kids behind me. We also have some really good hills in our development and it was pretty hard going up. Makenna all of a sudden blurts out, "Moooooom! Go faster!! You are going way too slow!!" Sorry baby.....that was as fast as my big butt could go;)
We also made some yummy broiled chicken salad for dinner and Makenna decided she needed to watch me cut up the chicken. She got her stool and stood right next to me. After a few minutes she asked if she could cut the chicken. Obviously I told her no. She pondered that for a minute and then informed me that when she gets older, and when Daddy and I are at work, she is going to cut up the chicken and make us dinner. I am going to hold her to that when she gets to be a teenager;)

First Attempt...

At french braiding Makenna's hair. She is three and a half and a lot of kids have hair down to their butts by now but hers is still pretty short. It's partly because she was bald for so long as a baby and partly because it's so curly. It's also really fine but I thought it would be fun to try while we were watching conference. I learned how to french braid while practicing on my cousin's hair many years ago while we watched conference. I knew that I would only be able to do the front of her hair and it was still pretty difficult to do that but I think it turned out pretty cute.

Not something you see everyday....

I was on my way to work yesterday and sitting at the light right beside the Stratosphere. Standing in front of Carl's Jr. waiting to cross the street was ELVIS!!! Yup, it was an Elvis impersonator in all the garb and hair. It was so funny. He was even doing the Elvis stance as he was waiting and then did the Elvis walk across the street. He was totally in character. Or maybe it was the real Elvis.......lol!
