1st day of 1st grade!!!

Today was Makenna's first day of 1st grade!! She was beyond excited to start school. And Mom was excited as well and to get back on a schedule! We have a big change this year though. We have to start an hour earlier than last year. The bell rings at 7:50 (the same time as Middle School) which means we have to leave our house by 7:20 to get a parking spot. For some reason they aren't opening the gate until the bell rings so that means there will be tons of kids waiting outside. It's so weird but we will just go with it. Makenna was pretty groggy this morning when I tried to get her up at 6:30 but I think it will get easier as she goes to bed earlier. She got ready and I made her favorite breakfast (scrambled eggs) which she didn't eat that much of and then I finished making her lunch!! Eek!! I have a kid old enough where I have to make her lunch!! It's so weird:)
Of course I had to take the 1st day pic:)
Once Makenna found her friend Olivia, she was all good and ran into the school playground. I lost sight of her a couple of times because she kept running ahead...little stinker!! There were a ton of people there!
Then, as we were standing in line, she started to get all panicky and worried. I kept giving her loves and it looked like she wanted to just burst into tears!! I guess she has some of me in her...:)
She totally broke my heart!!
Mommy was crying by this point but thankfully had sunglasses on so she couldn't see:) It was hard watching her walk into school without me. There were so many kids and people that I was so worried that she was going to get lost. Her teacher didn't want any parents going in so I assume she made it!! I'm sure she will be all smiles when she gets home and I can't wait to hear all about her day!

I know!! It's crazy!! That's how it was last year for us too but we are one of the few elementary schools that had to start earlier. It's supposed to help with the budget cuts. Don't ask me how though:)
