Day 7 Philadelphia

So, day 7 started out doing a little shopping and walking around our hotel in New York before we had to check out. We got a few last minute shots like this one of the 2009 ball. I think Trav did an awesome job! It looks like a postcard;

This is how we all felt that morning.....pretty beat up;)

We had a hard time getting up and ready for the day.

But once we did and got all our souvenir shopping done, we headed towards Pennsylvania!! Unfortunately, this is where we hit most of the traffic! It really sucked. It took quite a bit longer to get there than it should have. We thought it wouldn't be that bad on Saturday but it wasn't to be. We finally got to Philadelphia at around four and tried to get as much sight seeing as we could get in.
This is the liberty bell. Thankfully there wasn't as big of a security line as New York had so we got in pretty quick to see it.
We believe this is the original wood.

We were pretty hungry and had to try a Philly cheese steak. We got a couple and found this park to enjoy them in. It was called the Signers park.

This look is...."where are we Now???"

Papa feeding the birds while we ate. They kept coming and taking it right out of his hands.

Independence Hall. This is where they signed the Declaration of Independence! We got there just a tad bit late for the last tour but they still had parts of the actual document that we could see.

This is the first Congress building. We got there just in time for the last tour!

This is where the first Congress met and the building is almost all original. This is where Alexander Hamilton sat and they won't let you by this because these are the original chair and desk that he sat at. I thought Travis took pics of the whole room. It was pretty cool looking. They had to expand it as they added more states to the Union because there wasn't room enough for them all. A lot of the beginning of our country happened here. So neat!!

The original room where the Senate met which is upstairs. And again a lot of it is still the same stuff. Pretty cool.

It was really neat to see where our country got it's start with government. They said this is where George Washington stepped down when his term ended and that it was a major part of history. He could have easily made it so that he continued to be president indefinitely and our right to elect our presidents is because of him!!!
It's amazing how much you can learn when you see things for yourself and imagine these important times in history happening. It gave me a new appreciation for the country that we live in. I love our history and hope that our government now doesn't ruin all that these wonderful men fought for.

We asked the security guard and he said it was the original wood on the liberty bell. You read about these things but it is so cool to finally see them in person. Having a Philly Cheese Steak in Philly was pretty cool also.

Did you visit any Amish communities? I hear there are some close by. I can totally relate to the pic of Makenna not wanting to get out of bed!

Nope, no Amish. I know they were pretty close to us but we just didn't have time;)
