Jordyn's birth story

I'm finally getting to Jordyn's birth story. I wanted to get it done before our baby boy comes:) I remember going in for an ultrasound at 37 weeks to see how much she was weighing and her head alone measured in at 41 weeks!!! The rest of her averaged out to make her due September 16th which was two and half weeks early! Dr. Swainston then checked me and I was dilated to a 3-4 already. He had me schedule an induction date for the beginning of the next week if I didn't go into labor before that:) I went in for the amnio on Monday the 17th. I was really nervous and had my mom come with me. Dr. Swainston had a hard time finding a spot to do it and finally picked a place to stick me. Turns out that Jordyn decided to move right at that time and he got nothing. So he had to stick me again. This time he did it down at the bottom of my belly which hurt so much worse than the top!!! I mean really hurt!! He even apologized for having to do it there but that there was no other place to get the fluid. I found out that her lungs were good before I even left the hospital so we were on for our induction the next day!! I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 10:30. We kissed our little Kenna bye and set off to have our second daughter. When I got there, they checked me and I was still at a 3-4 and started me on an I.V. before they gave me pitocin. At 11:30 they gave me pitocin and I started to have little contractions at 12:00 but nothing too bad. Then the nurse came in and said that the anesthesiologist was going in to back to back c-sections and would be gone for two hours!!! She asked if I wanted the epidural now or to wait that long. I didn't really need it right then but I knew I was going to within that two hours. So I chose to get it right then even though I had only been contracting for fifteen minutes. The guy was nice but not as nice as my first guy. He was very quiet so I just put my head down and tried to stay still. After I was numb, the nurse broke my water and checked me. I had gotten to 4-5 by that time. Then she had me lay on my side for awhile which was very comfy and I just relaxed and tried to take a nap. Then at 1:30, she checked me and I was at a 6 and so she had me lay on my other side. That was super comfy too so I was just enjoying labor and wondered why women do this naturally. At about 2:45, she checked me and I was at an 8!! The nurse had me sit up to help her drop down and I started to feel the contractions again. She gave me a little extra for my epidural and was going to check with me again in a few to see if it worked. It totally didn't. They actually got worse. She said that he probably gave me a small dose since I was so early on when I got it and that he would have to come in to give me some more. He came in and I felt better but it was almost like he gave me too much now. It was very uncomfortable because my legs were completely numb. I couldn't feel them at all. It sucked. Plus, I still felt a bit of the contractions on my left side but of course it wasn't as bad as actually feeling the contractions but it still wasn't as nice as it had been. With Makenna and at first with Jordyn, I was able to move my legs back and forth. It was just a very weird feeling. By 3:30, I was dilated to a 9 and by 4:00, I was complete and pushing. At that time, the nurse told someone to call Dr. Swainston and tell him to come slowly. But pretty soon after that, I was pretty much ready and we had to wait for him. I still could feel the contractions on my side and she said I could give little pushes through the contractions to relieve the pressure and pain. It felt a lot better to do that and I was able to get her head right there and then she told me I couldn't do that anymore. So we were waiting and waiting and finally the nurse yelled at someone to call my doctor and tell him to come faster. I thought I was going to give birth at the same time as Makenna, 4:12 which I think I could have if the doctor had come faster. He finally came in and the nurse came in with two nurses in training and asked if I would be ok with them watching the doctor that was going to clean her off and stuff. I really didn't want to be a side show but I just said fine. I wish I had said no though but o-well. I gave a couple of pushes and she was out. The nurse said I could have her on my stomach but Dr. Swainston gave her right to the other doctor. I still don't know if this is because she needed to be suctioned right away or if it was for those nurses in training. If it was for the latter, that would have made me really mad but I still don't know for sure. They said that she had some amniotic fluid in her that needed to be suctioned out but he kept her over there forever while he did everything!! He even gave her a bath before he finally gave her to me. Dr. Swainston was really sweet this time. As he left, he said I did a great job and gave me a hug and then posed for pics with Jordyn before he left. I was totally exhausted after this birth so I was content in watching the doctor working on her for a bit but then I was starting to really want to hold my baby. I also think that someone was waiting for the room so they were just trying to get everything done with the baby quickly. I didn't have very much time before they were moving me out of that room and into postpartum. We literally only had a chance to have everyone hold her for a minute and get pictures and once I started breastfeeding, they were wheeling me out. I still couldn't feel my legs so they had to wheel me out in the bed. It was really weird. Then they got me in my room and I had to try and move my body over onto the other bed which is very hard when you can't feel the lower half of your body. My mom left to go get Makenna from Marnae and Nancy and Travis took turns holding her. I was so excited to see Makenna and to see how she was going to react to her little sister. She was so excited and kept giving her kisses. I also got some cuddles and she looked up at me and asked, "you happy Mommy?" I said, "Yes, I'm happy. Are you happy?" And she said yeah. It was so sweet. A lot went on after that with Jordyn and her pediatrician but that is another post altogether:) All in all, I think both of my births went pretty fast and easy and I'm so happy to have these beautiful little girls in our family.

Amen! We are so blessed to have Ken and J in our lives. Are you happy Mommy? How sweet is that! It made me cry. Kenna loves her Mommy so much. It was hard for her to have her Mommy gone for two nights. J was worth it.
